CHARLOTTE EDWARDS CUP 2024

The Stars played some exceptional cricket in the group stages, winning seven of the ten group matches. Bryony Smith’s side finished second with 34 points.

Stars won their opening two matches away at Storm and home to Thunder before rain brough a no result in their third game against Western Storm at Beckenham.

Stars followed the no result with a three-match winning run – away against Northern Diamonds, at the Kia Oval versus Saturday’s opponents, Southern Vipers, and at Lord’s over Sunrisers.

Stars’ six-match unbeaten run came to an end when they were defeated by three wickets by Central Sparks at Canterbury. A victory at the Kia Oval against Sunriers and a five-wicket win at The Blaze secured qualification for Finals Day. Stars knew that they would finish second in the group before their defeat to Vipers at Hove on Wednesday.

The breakthrough star of the tournament has been Stars’ left-arm spin bowler Tilly Corteen-Coleman. The 16-year-old has taken 14 wickets from her first nine professional matches at an average of 11.85. Tilly took four wickets in four balls on the way to her maiden professional five-wicket haul against the Northern Diamonds at Chester-le-Street.

With the bat, Paige Scholfield tops the charts for Stars with 218 runs from seven innings. She top scored with 73 not out in Stars’ victory over Thunder at Beckenham in May. Emma Jones has showcased her ability to hit the ball over the rope, her 71 runs in four innings have come at a rate of 154.34.
